Andrew Orosan-Weine, Ph.D.
Andrew Orosan-Weine is a fully licensed clinical psychologist. His work is in four main areas: children and families, adults, couples, and family businesses.
He earned his Ph.D. in Clinical-Community Psychology from DePaul University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in child and adolescent psychology at the University of Vermont. He has been meeting with children, families, couples, and adults, in various outpatient settings, for over 25 years; has been in private practice since 1997; and has been at Ann Arbor Center for the Family since 1999. For several years, he worked with university student-athletes on a wide variety of teams.
Dr. Orosan-Weine taught psychology at DePaul University and at Suffolk University (in Boston). He has been a guest speaker on preventive psychology at the University of Vermont, a guest speaker on family, child, and play therapy at the University of Michigan, and a guest speaker on the psychology of parenting at Washtenaw Community College. He also worked at Wediko Children’s Services and Beth Israel Hospital, both in Boston, conducting child, adult, and family therapy. For several years, he was a therapist at McAuley Outpatient Behavioral Services at Saint Joseph Hospital, and at Ann Arbor Consultation Services.
Regarding children and families, among the concerns he treats are depression, anxiety, inattention, temper tantrums, school problems, and attachment issues. He has interests in child and adolescent anxiety disorders (including obsessive-compulsive disorder and separation anxiety disorder), parenting young children, sleep difficulties, bedwetting and toileting issues, attachment issues, eating issues, school avoidance, and chronic medical problems.
Adults are another focus of his work. Individual adult therapy may address depression, anxiety, life transitions, inattention, or relationships. For many years, Dr. Orosan-Weine has also conducted couples therapy concerning common relationship hurdles.
Family business consultation is another interest area for him. Experience with thinking about “systems,” organizations, and families provides a basis for such consultation. He sometimes works with a group of therapists at Ann Arbor Center for the Family, who are also interested in family business consultation.
Dr. Orosan-Weine’s ways of working draw from cognitive-behavioral and family systems orientations. He often aims to foster coping and communication skills among clients of any age. With children and adolescents, he utilizes creative approaches in play therapy. With families or individuals, he helps explore and rework patterns of behaving and thinking in one’s current, original, and extended families. In systems such as family businesses, he helps elicit the strengths and values of an organization, with an eye also on how family businesses evolve. He is co-author of Helping Transfer Children: Strategies for Educational and Social Readjustment (Jossey-Bass, 1992), and has published research and book reviews on topics in child psychology.
